The Qantas first class Lounge at LAX is one of the best lounges at the Los Angeles international airport, if not the entire United States. What really sets the lounge apart is the extensive high quality drink selection and the restaurant quality made to order food.
Location in Los Angeles Airport
The Qantas lounge is located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (which also connects to terminals 4 through 8). Just after security, turn left down a small hallway with signs to airline lounges. Take the elevators to level 5, it is just across from the neighboring, but much inferior Korean Air/Priority Pass Lounge.
First Class Access
Access to the lounge is reserved for passengers who are either
- Departing on a first class flight on Qantas, or an international first class flight on another Oneworld partner that day.
- Qantas Platinum One, or Platinum Frequent Flyer departing on a Qantas, or another Oneworld partner flight that day (any class of service)
- Oneworld emerald members departing on a Qantas, or another Oneworld partner flight that day (any class of service)
One guest is allowed and must be departing on the same flight, except for Oneworld emerald members and those with an international first class flight on a Oneworld partner who’s guest just needs to be departing on a flight marketed and operated by a Oneworld partner
Hours of operation 06:30-23:30 daily.
Qantas LAX Lounge Decor
The entrance immediately transitions into the seating area which is essentially one massive room divided into a seating area, bar and dining area by the layout of the furniture.
After passing the seating area is the dining area and long bar. In my opinion the bar is the aesthetic focal point for the room. We spent our entire stay sitting at the bar. It also helped that the bartender was very friendly and let us try every wine and champagne on the menu 😉
Made to Order Food and Drink
The first class made to order food and drink at the what really sets it apart. Unfortunately in most lounges in the United States we have been accustomed to self-serve middle of the road wine and spirits, kiddy snacks (pretzels and cookies) and maybe a bit of warm food if you’re lucky. This is definitely not the case at the Qantas lounge though!
The Qantas made to order food menu that rivals many high quality expensive restaurants. Unfortunately we were only able to sample the made to order breakfast for this review. The ricotta pancakes with caramelized banana and maple cream were amazing. I also attached a lunch menu as well. Seared steel-head trout and black Angus steak would have been my choices. The quality of the ingredients, actual preparation of the food and presentation were all equally on point at this phenomenal Los Angeles airport lounge.
Showers and Restrooms
The wifi worked great and was fast while I was there, no issues for this lounge review
The one downside of the lounge (I guess there has to be one), is that there is no formal business center or good place to do extended periods of work. But that was about it.
Lounge Review Conclusion
The Qantas first class lounge is easily the best at Los Angeles LAX and definitely one of the top in the United States. While not quite as extravagant as some international lounges such as the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Singapore, or the extensive array of Cathay Pacific Lounges in Hong Kong, the high quality made to order food and top shelf drinks really set this first class lounge apart.
